2023

On World Town Planning Day, planners and communities worldwide come together to celebrate how good planning improves people's lives and benefits society at large, creating places to live, work, and play together.

For this year's World Town Planning Day, the School of City & Regional Planning invited Commissioner Jahnee R. Prince, City of Atlanta, Department of City Planning, as the guest speaker.

Atlanta’s Department of City Planning Commissioner Jahnee Prince is a dedicated public servant with 25 years of experience in city planning.  Commissioner Prince joined Mayor Andre Dickens’ cabinet in September 2022 and under her leadership, the City has seen many wins, including launching a simpler, shorter permitting process; the acceptance of Atlanta’s LGBTQ+ Historic Context Statement by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs’ Historic Preservation Division; nurturing partnerships with community groups and stakeholders in the redevelopment of the former Chattahoochee Brick Company site; and adopting best practices for the Neighborhood Planning Unit system.

Jahnee Prince was recently appointed as planning commissioner on September 26, 2023.  Commissioner Prince visited the School of City & Regional Planning on Wednesday, November 8, and discussed her new role in the city, her primary projects, her challenges, and how her current role is influencing city planning in Atlanta.
